YEARLY Disclaimer: All picks are based on their HS statistical season and our take on them -
by no means do they reflect future potential at any level (college or pro) - as always there are several players who could indeed have won or been placed on post season award teams -
and certainly we had to have their information sent to us in order to make a determination. - I will take new stats/info and add to all other teams but this one and the Ultimate 9 team.
Also - coaches can contact me for a certificate for any of the teams I have posted here -

2018 Ultimate 9
9 Best performances by position for the 2018 HS season
YEARLY Disclaimer: All picks are based on their HS statistical season and our take on them - by no means do they reflect future potential at any level (college or pro) -
as always there are several players who could indeed have won or been placed on post season award teams - and certainly we had to have their information sent to us in order to make a determination.
2018 Ultimate 9 Team |
|
Each player on this team will receive a commemorative baseball bat furnished by B.O.M.S.S. Bat Company |
|
1 - RYAN WEATHERS |
PITCHER |
|
Ryan Weathers/Loretto HS -
Weathers went 11-0 with 5 shutouts and allowed 1 earned run all year.
Ryan struck out 135 batters in 69 1/3 innings in 2018, his 0.10 ERA led
the state. He was named Gatorade TN POY and Gatorade National POY among
others. Drafted seventh overall by the San Diego Padres, the Vandy
signee dominated the mound at every level he pitched at in the last two
years. He signed with the Padres on July 2, 2018 and will begin his professional career shortly. |
Coaches Quote: "Ryan is a type of player that a high school coach is lucky to have once
in their entire coaching career. Ryan is book smart, baseball smart,
throws high velocity (with accuracy) and can also change speeds with
great location. Ryan is also a great hitter and position player as
well. The biggest assets Ryan has are: he is self motivated, loves to
compete and is a Christian. He's the most complete player that I have
ever had the pleasure to be associated with in my 34 years of coaching
HS baseball." Gary Lamm HC Loretto HS |
|
2 - BRYANT GOOLSBY |
CATCHER |
|
Bryant
Goolsby/Smith County HS Bryant
hit .569 with 15 doubles and a
state leading 17 home runs and 67 rbi while scoring 41 times himself.
Goolsby led the Owls to the AA state tourney for the third time in
school history. Bryant ended his high school career with a .493 Bavg
(185/375) 33 HR and 166 rbi. He has offers from several JuCo, NAIA and
Division 2 schools but has yet to decide where he will attend school
next year. |
Coaches Quote: "Bryant has been a great player & starter for us for 4 years. This
recognition could not go to a better young man. To say we'll miss him is
a drastic understatement. He played hard all the time. He worked hard
all the time. That work ethic is something a coach looks for in all
players & is something that will serve him well throughout his life.
He's an exceptional player, but an even better person." Scott Pope HC Smith County HS |
|
3 - JAVON GRIER |
FIRST BASE |
|
Javon Grier/Northwest HS -
Javon hit .512 with 17 extra base hits including 6 home runs for the
Vikings. He scored 39 runs and drove in 42 more as well as stealing 15
bases in 2018. Javon has signed to play with Jackson State CC. |
Coaches Quote:
"I'm really happy for Javon. This is a great honor and true reward for
all of his hard work that he has put in over the past 4 years of high
school ball. His tansformation physically and mentally has been
impressive and the sky is the limit for him. He has been a wonderful
ambassador for my program and will continue to be as he reaches the
highest levels of baseball because of his work ethic and dedication to
our game. Even when faced with many obstacles, he never slows down. He
is fueled by a passion to be great. He is easily one of the most
lovable peole on the planet and because of that my staff and the rest
of the Northwest family will continue to be his biggest fans." Christopher Benne Northwest HS |
|
4 - JOHN RHODES | SECOND BASE |
John Rhodes/CCS - John is the first and only (at this point) two time member of the Ultimate 9 team. He led the state with a .578 batting average with 52 hits including 15 home runs. Rhodes scored 57 runs and drove in 54 with 30 extra base hits. He walked 29 times and stole 19 bases in 2018. The junior has committed to the University of Kentucky.
Coaches Quote: "John had one of the most impressive season's I have ever seen. Not only is he incredibly talented, but he has a tireless work ethic which seperates him from other players. Even though he was often pitched around, John always seemed to come up with the big hits when we needed to all fields. He was also a true closer on the mound, striking out two batters per inning. A leader both on and off the field and I look forward to having him back for his senior year." Ben Wharton HC Chattanooga Christian
5 - PARKER NOLAND |
THIRD BASE |
|
Parker
Noland/Farragut- Parker hit .520 with 64 hits including 18 doubles and
12 home runs. Noland scored 50 runs and drove in 43 Admirals. He also
walked 34 times this season. Parker is a junior and has committed to Vandebilt. |
Coaches Quote: "I am very proud of the season that Parker just had, it will go down as
one of the best ever in Admiral Baseball history , he now holds the
single season average mark at Farragut . Parker is a very balanced
hitter who killed it in the weight-room this winter and took his game to
an elite level this year."
Matt Buckner HC Farragut HS |
|
6 - |
SHORTSTOP |
|
Drew Benefield/Siegel HS - Drew batted .504 (58 hits) had 21 doubles and 12 home runs for the Stars. He drove in 42 runs, scored 67 and was walked 49 times (state leader in 2018). He also stole 19 bases leading the Stars to the AAA State tourney this season. Benefield has signed to play at the University of Louisville. |
Coaches Quote: "Drew
is an outstanding young man that has made himself into one of the best
players I have ever been around, as well as one of the hardest working.
He has a drive to win and be successful along with the work ethic to
make himself great at whatever he does." Craig Reavis HC Siegel HS |
|
7 - GAVIN CROSS | LEFT FIELD |
Gavin Cross/Tennessee HS
- Gavin hit .475 with 15 doubles, 4 triples and 12 home runs. In
addition he scored 60 runs and also had 60 rbi and 40 stolen bases for
the Vikings. The junior outfielder did not make an error all year on 82
chances. |
|
Coaches Quote: "Gavin Is an extraordinary athlete and competitor. His instincts on the field are incredible. He is like having another coach on the field. He was only a junior this year so we look forward to having him one more year. He has a chance to be the best player I’ve ever had the pleasure to coach!" Preston Roberts Tennessee HS
8 - TREY TREADWAY |
CENTER FIELD |
|
Trey
Treadway/Rockwood HS - Trey
hit .500 with 11 extra base hits, scored 58
runs and stole 34 bases and walked 38 times for the Tigers in 2018.
Treadway struck out 1 time in 135 plate appearances. He was named the
District POY and also played football and basketball at Rockwood HS.
Trey is taking a scholarship opportunity at Tennessee Tech with the
Men's basketball team as a Student Manager/Coach.
|
Coaches Quote: "Trey has quite a history with our program over the years. He first came to me 10 years ago during my first year at Rockwood with a request to be our bat boy. So, needless to say; it was extremely difficult to say goodbye to him when we were eliminated in the playoffs this year. Trey was always the example in our program during his career. While playing football and basketball he always made time to long toss, get his swings in the cage, throw his bullpens in the winter. Although he was a very successful football and basketball player his first love was baseball. His work ethic, commitment, and drive over his 4 yrs has shown in the accolades he has earned in 2018." Jake Witter Rockwood HS
9 - C.J. CAMPBELL |
RIGHT FIELD |
|
C.J.
Campbell/Central Magnet HS - CJ hit .467 with 50 hits (30 xb) with 15
doubles and 11 home runs while scoring 42 runs and driving in 52 more.
The junior OF was hit 11 times by a pitch. |
Coaches Quote: "CJ is the ultimate offensive weapon. On top of his power numbers he
walked more than he struck out and he stole 20 bases. He is unselfish
and wants to win. He is a joy to coach and I am looking forward to one
more year coaching CJ." Jason Patterson Central Magnet HS |
